Can very much recommend Bulletstorm. The campaign is a lot of fun and the different ways you can kill enemies make you feel really cool.

You'll have to deal with the dreaded GFWL tho', so keep that in mind. I would like to stress that Games for Windows Live is by far the most difficult challenge in the game.

Graphically it's nice but I found it a little repetitive, it's not something that will blow you away though, I think totalbiscuit has done a video of it if you want more info.

Honestly its ok. It tries to emulate to slow difficult combat of Dark Souls and Lords of the Fallen to some extent, but changes it with a more generic level up stats and skill based system.

The story is passable, and honestly at the end of the game you can tell the developers forgot it existed. Whats cool is that you're "possessed" with a fire demon thing, and as you play the game you're confronted with choices to let him take a bit of your humanity in return for power.

Its black and white, saying no gets you nothing, saying yes gets you something. It does affect the endings though they are passable as I mentioned.

Something like that is only possible with that kind of technology. Otherwise, they'd have to make it really obvious by planting things in the dialogue that are hard to miss, so it adds to the difficulty massively.

The interrogation system truth, doubt, lie is rather inconsistent and you'll often find the character saying things you wouldn't expect for that option.

Sometimes it will cause you to miss out on evidence, which is pretty shitty. Turns out that they intended for the options to be "coax, force, lie" but changed it before shipping.

So, if anyone is getting the game, keep that in mind when you're playing. This is so true, you really have no idea what kind of dialogue picking "doubt" is going to result in.

The story i found decent with gameplay. I found the detective work the best part of the game. Oh and driving in the oldschool cars.

I found it extremely boring and disjointed. The characters were bland and uninteresting, the interrogation system is flaky at best, the shooting is weak and unsatisfying, and its filled with arbitrary "gamey" segments.

The story isn't cohesive in the slightest. I love story focused games and dont mind a slower pace, but LA Noire was really disappointing.

It hits its stride in the character interactions, you'll feel rewarded for putting in effort at a crime scene and finding all the clues.

Worth it to witness the facial expression tech alone. Not GTA, less action, more methodical, but not without its flaws - sometimes you feel like you're running around someone else's good-looking puzzle and you haven't triggered the right dialogue tree yet.

The special editions are all magnificent pieces of science fiction cinema. Watch Alien, Aliens and Alien 3. They're great.

If you like them you can look into getting the game. It's still a fantastic horror game. I haven't yet finished it but I still recommend it.

The "Survival Mode" should really have been named more accurately "Time Trial Mode", to my understanding of it. Totally unnecessary.

The main game is 20 hours or so. The DLCs are short and more of a "challenge" mode for when you're done with the game.

Only get them if you want a bit more when you're done with the main story. My favorite game this year. I highly recommend it if you enjoy atmospheric games.

The Alien AI is impressive and the game runs incredibly well even on lower end hardware. If you've seen "Alien", you will enjoy it even more.

Play it in the dark with headphones. Very much worth it IMO, especially at this price. It's the one game I found so far which can really keep up with Amnesia TDD and Outlast in how to instill terror, and at least for me surpassed them both.

There are only a couple reoccurring criticisms around about the game that aren't very minor issues that could be solved by tiny patches:.

Point 1, is in all cases that I'm aware of, due to the player being impatient, expecting the game to play like a standard stealth game where enemies patrol on a fixed pattern and you can basically hump their left ear before they notice you.

If you trip over some shit on the ground, the Alien is going to hear you. If it's sniffing around for where you are and the motion tracker in your hands is beeping, it's going to hear that too.

Basically, it's probably one of the best games in the Alien franchise. As bad as Colonial Marines was, Alien: Isolation is good.

Do note that it's based more on Alien than Aliens, and as such, you're not going to be shooting Xenomorphs with military weapons.

You're going to be sneaking around and running the fuck away from an unstoppable killing machine. It's an extremely atmospheric game, that's extremely tense.

People say scary, and people crawl out of the woodwork to say no game is scary, etc, but the game is full of scary tenseness.

This isn't a jump scare game generally, it's more full of dread. The environments are well-crafted and the gameplay is generally quite smooth.

There's a basic crafting system to build tools and there are weapons available. It also runs very well, performance is great on most systems, so if you're worried about system specs, don't be generally.

The game feels like you're right there in Alien the movie, even though the game's setting is elsewhere.

Though there are a couple DLCs set in the Alien film. Alien: Isolation stands on its own. If you don't know anything about the Alien franchise, but the idea of sneaking around a decommissioned space station while an Alien monster hunts you appeals, you'll enjoy the game.

A game can't be "too long", really. It can be poorly paced, and I believe that's what most people mean with A:I.

I am a huge fan of the original trilogy, and this is one of my favorite games this year, however I did find a few of the objectives towards the end of the game to be just a little too drawn out, and a little too repetitive.

Grim Dawn is a blast! It isn't terribly difficult that a new player wouldn't be able to complete it.

Panzer Corps is pretty great, though the DLC is a bit pricey. The base game is still tons of fun though. You will care about your units A LOT, and losing even one of them is a complete disaster on higher difficulties.

You have to manage resources, carefully plan attacks and defenses, and learn to utilize combined arms effectively.

The campaign progression is also great, there are several different branching paths, and if you keep winning decisive victories, you'll eventually be invading the United States, of all things.

Unfortunately, much of the cultural info provided must be viewed outside the game. The game plays much better as a co-op experience but is playable solo, albeit sometimes clunky.

TB complains about AI controlling and a few bugs but they released an update recently which may have fixed that stuff. He wanted to recommend it if just to support the interesting choice of locale but ultimately found it kind of boring.

The documentary is very nice and the platforming is a little clunky but fun enough and has some memorable moments. The art direction is very good.

The integration of the two could have been done better but that's a lesson for any new games. If you're interested, go ahead.

Clickteam is my vote. Fuse seemed neat but with all the premodled stuff, I dont know if I would spend as much time making stuff from scratch.

I dont know a lot either, but thats my mindset and my vote. I was torn between 3DMark and Clickteam, but I went with 3DMark because the price is more accessible, so maybe more people will benefit with the discount.

I've never needed one, and can tell if my computer can run a game or not by looking at the specs and benchmarks that are posted on lots of sites for free.

Fuse is pretty neat, but limited in scope. Do you need 3D character models that are of a very specific art style?

Then this is the program for you! I don't make 3D games, and I don't like realistic styles in my games.

But Clickteam Fusion is actually pretty neat! Compare that to the insane price of Unity. I already own Unity for work, so I don't know that much about Fusion You can see how big of a difference your changes make, how stable it is, and how hot it's getting.

Since the benchmarks are the same every time, you can get a reasonably accurate comparison between configurations.

That being said, the average user probably doesn't have much use for it. Anyone got thoughts on them right now?

I know they're Early Access, but is there enough content yet and are the devs reliable enough?

Project Zomboid has made some good progress in terms of features, and there's an update that will add NPC survivors with some really neat group mechanics and emergent gameplay coming sometime soon.

All in all I think it will be an excellent game, if it isn't already a really good Early Access game. They've progressed far beyond the drama when they lost some data and Lemmy threw a drunk fit in Twitter so I'm no longer worried it will vanish as vaporware.

Read their last couple of dev blogs on their site if you're wanting to get an idea of the pace of development. I would say you could.

You can get deep into crafting or carpentry but I've had fun just scavenging and trying to stay alive. I know the creator Rocket of Dayz always raved about project zomboid and their devs and kind of aspired to be them.

I backed grim dawn and so far its been pretty excellent. It is really just titan quest v2 which is excellent if you like titan quest and the game is definitely in a fully playable state with tons to do, they keep adding new areas and content each update also it now has multiplayer which is pretty awesome.

Can't speak for how it runs though. Why is Spintires one of the front page deals today? I thought the game was essentially abandoned because of a spat between the devs and publisher?

This deals are probably arranged weeks in advance. They were probably already on the list before ceasing development.

I'm completely out of the loop, but what does that matter? I bought it when it released and it worked fine and I had fun. Unless they've broken it somehow, what does abandonment mean?

It's not like it's an early access game, what you buy is the released finished product. Beyond the obvious Skyrim and Portal 2 recommendations, Shadow Warrior is awesome.

It's very satisfying and pretty difficult on hard, I'd highly recommend it especially at this price. TL;DR - I think most people know that skyrim is likely worth it.

They are two very different numbers. One gives you a feel for how gamers treat the game in their library, vs games that people don't actually play because it's just grinding quests.

That's not at all what he's addressing. The amount of time gamers spend on the game is very valuable information. If you agree that the amount of time gamers spend on a game is valuable information, and if you agree that money is valuable.

Then by definition a metric that takes both into account is also valuable. Many gamers, myself included, can't buy every game we want to play.

We have a set budget and we want to get the most entertainment out of that money. Although I think it's good that you include it in the analysis for those gamers for whom length is a factor holding a direct positive proportionality with their assessment of quality, let me address the point that the users above me are making.

While that metric may be useful to some, many gamers consider that the time we are likely to spend in a game doesn't proportionately relate to that game's quality; for us, one same game isn't intrinsically made any better or worse by making it longer or shorter, there being a certain point of balance where a game delivers its best experience, and from where concentrating content or making it sparse, adding more of the same or cutting it short, is just as detrimental.

It's also worth it to address the point many people seem to be repeating lately: "if the game was so bad, you wouldn't have spent so many hours in it", which can be reformulated as "if people spend so many hours in it, it has to be at least somewhat good".

That assertion is regrettably false. Game designers nowadays use a lot human psychology in their work; this is good, because it potentially allows them to deliver the best experience possible, but that's unfortunately not always the case, and some of that psychology is used in order to extend the time and occasionally money players spend into a game, regardless of the fun they are having.

This sometimes leads to situations where gamers look back to time spent and in retrospect realise that they weren't actually having fun, which in turn leads to the feeling of having wasted one's time.

In my opinion, the psychological 'tricking' does not explain the data. There are very few if any examples of games where the general consensus is that the game is a waste of time, but the median hours played is high.

The ones that might exist are the exception, not the rule IMHO. If you go through the list of games, sorted by median hour's played, you will quickly go through a veritable who's who of games that people love, and actively profess to love.

Yes, there are variances in how much enjoyment people have per hour of play. You seem to think that more gamers feel the way you do, than feel the way I do.

I disagree. The reason? These posts are up voted more than they are down voted. Even if it were true, who cares if other people like to use a concept of value per dollar when making purchasing decision?

It's one more metric to consider. It's especially useful when you have a small amount of money and are attempting to get a game that you can use to entertain yourself for the foreseeable future.

I think I've spent 60 hours of my lifetime just talking or thinking about that game. Worth every penny. It's one metric representing cost and length.

Can very much recommend Bulletstorm. The campaign is a lot of fun and the different ways you can kill enemies make you feel really cool.

You'll have to deal with the dreaded GFWL tho', so keep that in mind. I would like to stress that Games for Windows Live is by far the most difficult challenge in the game.

Fortunately, I had enough time to play through the campaign in those two sessions, because I haven't been able to get back in and I have no idea what I did differently to make it work.

Graphically it's nice but I found it a little repetitive, it's not something that will blow you away though, I think totalbiscuit has done a video of it if you want more info.

Honestly its ok. It tries to emulate to slow difficult combat of Dark Souls and Lords of the Fallen to some extent, but changes it with a more generic level up stats and skill based system.

The story is passable, and honestly at the end of the game you can tell the developers forgot it existed.

Whats cool is that you're "possessed" with a fire demon thing, and as you play the game you're confronted with choices to let him take a bit of your humanity in return for power.

Its black and white, saying no gets you nothing, saying yes gets you something. It does affect the endings though they are passable as I mentioned.

If you're looking for an RPG like experience and have cash to blow. Go for it. I did. I had fun. I wouldn't recommend it to everyone, but those who want something different worth a look.

The story is better. The characters are better. The RPG elements are passable. I haven't played it but I've had my eye on it for a while.

It's definitely worth picking up at that price. The whole character animation thing seems gimmicky but actually works really well and they recreate the feel of 40s LA extremely well.

Distinct lack of real free roam though, once you've finished the story you're pretty much done. It seems gimmicky, but it actual adds to the gameplay because you interview people and have to catch them in lies by watching their facial tics.

Something like that is only possible with that kind of technology. Otherwise, they'd have to make it really obvious by planting things in the dialogue that are hard to miss, so it adds to the difficulty massively.

In my opinion, that part failed totally. Either the actors hammed it up so much it was obvious, or the ticks were mixed up with normal facial ticks and rendered invisible among the noise.

Pretending to be pretending to tell the truth is hard. The game sort of feels episodic, like an old school noir television series, so it can be a nice game to play a few episodes at a time then come back to.

You can tell Rockstar really wanted to try something different with this one. They didn't fall flat by any means, it was quite enjoyable, but I get the feeling that NOIRE 2, if it were to ever happen would be the real game changer.

The interrogation system truth, doubt, lie is rather inconsistent and you'll often find the character saying things you wouldn't expect for that option.

Sometimes it will cause you to miss out on evidence, which is pretty shitty. Turns out that they intended for the options to be "coax, force, lie" but changed it before shipping.

So, if anyone is getting the game, keep that in mind when you're playing. This is so true, you really have no idea what kind of dialogue picking "doubt" is going to result in.

Doubt just means "Accuse of lying without evidence" while Lie means "Present evidence showing the lie". But you're having a nice calm conversation and then all of a sudden Cole flips out if you accuse them of lying.

Yes, great deal. Its a rockstar game so you almost can't go wrong imo. I got 52 hours in that game and completed it so thats def. The story i found decent with gameplay.

I found the detective work the best part of the game. Oh and driving in the oldschool cars. I found it extremely boring and disjointed.

The characters were bland and uninteresting, the interrogation system is flaky at best, the shooting is weak and unsatisfying, and its filled with arbitrary "gamey" segments.

The story isn't cohesive in the slightest. I love story focused games and dont mind a slower pace, but LA Noire was really disappointing.

That being said, do yourself a favor and watch the first 3 movies, preferably from the latest Anthology Box.

The special editions are all magnificent pieces of science fiction cinema. Watch Alien, Aliens and Alien 3. They're great. If you like them you can look into getting the game.

It's still a fantastic horror game. I haven't yet finished it but I still recommend it. The "Survival Mode" should really have been named more accurately "Time Trial Mode", to my understanding of it.
